Member Protection Policy
TRYumph Gymnastics Academy is committed to providing a sport and work environment free of discrimination and harassment – sexual or otherwise – where individuals are treated with respect and dignity. TRYumph Gymnastics Academy does not tolerate discrimination or harassment under any circumstances and will take disciplinary action against anyone who breaches this Member Protection policy.
TRYumph Gymnastics Academy Member Protection policy is part of the organisation’s proactive and preventative approach to tackling inappropriate behaviour.
TRYumph Gymnastics Academy is committed to ensuring that the safety, welfare and well-being of each child is maintained at all times during their participation in activities run by our club. Accordingly, any person involved in the instruction, management or coaching of any member under the age of 18 years may be asked to undergo screening procedures including, but not limited to, police background checks.
Child Protection Policy
Our child protection policy:
- Prohibits any form of abuse against children.
- Provides opportunities for our juniors to contribute to and provide feedback on our program development.
- Carefully selects and screens people whose role requires them to have direct and unsupervised contact with children.
- Ensures our codes of conduct, particularly for roles associated with junior sport, are promoted, enforced and reviewed.
- Provides procedures for raising concerns or complaints.
- Provides education and/or information to those involved in our sport on child abuse and child protection.
TRYumph Gymnastics Academy requires that any child who is abused, or anyone who reasonably suspects that a child has been or is being abused by someone within our sport, to report it immediately to the police or relevant government agency as well as the the Business Manager and Head Coach.
All allegations of child abuse will be dealt with promptly, seriously, sensitively and confidentially. A person will not be victimized for reporting an allegation of child abuse and the privacy of all persons concerned will be respected.
If anyone bound by this policy reasonably suspects that a child is being abused by his or her parent(s), they are advised to contact the Children’s Aid Society.
Health and Safety Policy
Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children can meet the physical demands of participating in TRYumph Gymnastics Academy’s program(s) in which they are enrolled. Parents are to make coaches aware of any pertinent medical issues.
Change Room Policy
We have two change rooms, one for Women and one for Men for the exclusive use of our registered participants. Parents/caregivers of preschoolers are allowed to go in a change room to assist their child(ren) provided that they go to the parent/caregiver gender’s change room. For school-age children, a parent/caregiver may enter the change room provided both the participant and parent are in the appropriate gendered change room. If this is not possible, accommodations can be made with use of our bathrooms.
Communicable Diseases
For the health & safety of our participants and coaches, we reserve the right to remove any child from a class that we feel should not be participating due to coughing, fever, chicken pox, flu symptoms or any other illness that might be contagious and harmful to others. The parent/guardian will be called and asked to take their child home.
Lice is a reality of childhood, however it is required that children with lice refrain from attending the club. If you notice signs of scratching, rash on the neck, or nits growing in the hair, ensure you wash the hair and start treatment right away. Please do not bring your child to train until the condition has been treated and no sign of nits or lice are present in the hair. If we notice a child in the class with symptoms of lice, we will call the parent and ask to remove their child to prevent spreading it to others. Additionally, the families who may have come in contact with that child will be discretely informed so that they may monitor their own child for lice. Please refer to the following website detailing guidelines for managing head lice: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/professionals-and-partners/head-lice-information-for-schools.aspx
Accidents and Injuries
TRYumph Gymnastics Academy uses only top-quality equipment that is checked on an ongoing basis and to ensure it is in good condition. The coaches follow a program of safe use of the equipment and you can expect your child to be taught to use it properly. A child who does not follow the instructions of the coach and who does not use the equipment in a safe manner can hurt themselves or someone else. An infraction of basic safety rules may lead to disciplinary action.
Acute Injuries: Gymnastics is a strenuous and difficult sport and hence, even with the best coaching and the best equipment, injuries can occur. Our coaches are trained in sports first aid and we have well-defined procedures in case of injury. Gymnasts must inform their coach immediately if they are injured in any way. The coach will decide an appropriate action. For a minor injury: ice, rest and elevate. For major injury: prompt medical attention.
Injured gymnasts should meet with their coaches to plan a modified training program within the restriction of the injury. It is recommended that the gymnasts attend their regular training sessions as much as possible. Absence from class is physically and mentally detrimental.
Repetitive Stress/Strain Injuries: Some injuries do not come as a result of a specific incident but as a result of a serious of small incidents or other causes.
Any pain must be communicated by the gymnast to the coach. Where pain occurs during training, the training will be modified. If after a week of modified training the injury has not improved, the gymnast will be directed to get a sport medicine doctor and/or sport physiotherapist’s evaluation and modified training will continue.
